Dear Family, Friends, and mysterious readers...
This week has been a delightfully enlightening week. We discovered one of our Less Active members is letting drugs dealers live with her, and they pay their rent in drugs... We showed up with a member before our regularly scheduled appointment, and she told us that it was a bad time. But the three guys sitting around her kitchen table, wrapping up weed, saw us in our suits and ties and hightailed it out her back door. Then she said that she guessed it was okay for us to come in now.
Yeah... Elder C and I were not expecting to see that. We talked with her about it and apparently it's been going on for a while. We had had such high hopes for her. We still have high hopes, but now we know that we still have a lot of ground to cover with her.
We went tracting in the ghetto part of South Tulsa, and we met a lot of interesting people! We got a couple return appointments, and got some numbers. So we'll be going back soon to see the people who were interested.
It's funny, we were walking through a parking lot and this black guy (who had a ton of bling and was wearing a wife-beater/tanktop) calls out to us from across the parking lot, asking us what we were selling. He was standing with a bunch of his black friends, and they started laughing after he said that. We walked over and told him that we don't sell stuff, but we do talk to people about Jesus Christ. He was very excited to hear that we "talk 'bout Jesus". We talked with him for a bit, about what we believe and who Jesus Christ is to us. His friends were kinda making faces at us as we talked to him, but whatever.
He enjoyed talking to us and we gave him a Book of Mormon and our number. He said we could come by and see him this week, and we are definitely planning on it!
This week, on Thursday, is my one year mark. I'm pretty excited, but I'm also humbled to know that I made it this far. I'm grateful for all the support I've received from everyone, and I'm thankful that God has given me the strength to continue through the rough times. I know that this is the half-time part of my mission, and that I need to stay strong. I know that if I keep my trust in our Heavenly Father, he will continue to lift me up and give me the strength to overcome my weakness.
I love you all! Have a great week!
