Dear Family & Friends,
This week has been a week of service and fun! Freaking asians out, and getting a Root Canal is my type of fun!
Monday: We went to a member's house and helped them with work around their farm. We set up a barbed wire fence, nailed a wall back onto their barn, cut down a forest of weeds that was growing inside their corral, and then ran inside cuz rain started pouring down. All in all, we did quite a bit of work. Then the member made clam chowder, cooked some shrimp, fried some catfish, and then made crab cakes. It was a great day!
Tuesday: We had a companionship exchange today. Elder S went to Salem with Elder H, and I got to stay in Rolla with Elder D. We taught one of our Chinese Investigators, Y, about the Plan of Salvation. But it was really frustrating, trying to help her understand the English terms we were using. I bought a Simplified Mandarin/PinYin/English Book of Mormon so I can learn Chinese and how to explain in her language about the Gospel.
Wednesday: The other Chinese Family we are teaching brought us Qi Chun (Rice wrapped in banana leaves), and it tasted really good! They are really good people, and they are so sincere about learning the Gospel. We are going to invite them to be baptized soon, hopefully they accept!
Thursday: Nothing interesting happened today, besides finding an iphone on the side of the road. It's screen is missing, but the circuit board is completely intact.
Friday: We went and painted a member's house out by Edgar Springs. It was really hot, and the paint dried really quickly. After they fed us lunch, we went to the Dentist cuz my tooth was hurting. He looked at my tooth, told me there was a cavity going into the center of my tooth. So, I got a Root Canal! My tooth doesn't hurt anymore, but I still have to go back in on July 7th for a crown. I am also taking Corticosteroids. I'm pretty sure these won't make me muscular, but they do help with the pain.
Saturday: We helped the C family move into an apartment down the street from us. They have a Stand-up Piano, and they told us not to move it cuz it was "too heavy". Elder S and I decided to see how heavy it was. We picked it up, and we knew we could take it outside to the trailer. We moved the piano outside and when the Cs saw us they freaked out! They ran over and tried to help lift. But they didn't make any difference... Brother and Sister C are very small, their heads are just below my chest. We set the piano on the trailer, and Brother Chansaid, "Eldahs, you are very stwong! I cannot make this piano move a single inch, but you make it move mile!"
I am grateful that God gave me the strength to help people. I pray that I will have more opportunities to serve the people I love.
Sunday: One of the Sisters in our ward got called to the Fort Lauderdale, Florida mission. Her farewell was today, and she leaves in 2 weeks. We gave her a highlighted Preach My Gospel to show her the things that will help her on her mission.
I love the new family in our ward! They are recently reactivated, because their son wanted to be baptized and they love us! They sent three bags of goodies to our apartment and now we don't have to buy groceries for the next week! I love members!
Plans for Today: We are going to Salem to spend time with the Elders down there. They don't have enough miles to come up, so we are going there. We know of a cave down there, so we might go explore that. I'm going to be prepared this time! I have wader boots, rugged pants, 150 Lumen headlamp, and some leather grip workman's gloves! I am ready to go!
I love being a missionary! There is nowhere else I'd rather be! I know that God is watching out for everyone, but we have to remember to ask for his help. We need to open our hearts and let him touch our lives.
I love all y'all!
