Dear Family & Friends,
This week was as interesting as the last, but it was fun!
Monday: We didn't do anything fun besides clean our apartment. I chose to do the bathroom, because I wanted to clean the shower myself. It has been a nasty looking yellow color since I got here, and there was an orange ring along the bottom of the bathtub. So we went to Walmart first to get cleaning supplies. I got some Clorox toilet bowl cleaner that said,
"WARNING! HIGHLY CORROSIVE! FOR USE ON TOILET BOWL ONLY! DO NOT USE ON BATHTUB, TOILET SEAT, OR FLOOR! AVOID CONTACT WITH EYES & SKIN! IF CONTACT WITH EYES OR SKIN OCCURS: WASH THOROUGHLY WITH WATER, AND CALL POISON CONTROL!"
I decided I would use that on our bathtub! I poured an entire bottle of that toilet bowl cleaner over everything in our shower, and I watched as it ate away at all of the yellow gunk. I used gloves as I scrubbed, but I was really just wiping the grime off of the shower. The cleaner was making my job the easiest, and I ended up not really doing anything. Our shower is white now, and I actually feel like I could take a bath in it!
Tuesday: I went on a companionship Exchange with Elder H_ in Salem. We went tracting for most of the day, and I found a toad next the road! I picked it up, named him Goad, and brought my new friend with me to tract! I put him on my shoulder and he just sat there as we talked to people. It was a great conversation starter! I eventually scared an old lady and I had to let Goad go.
Wednesday: I got back from our exchange and we had a District meeting. It was a great meeting, and I learned a lot about what I need to work on as a missionary.
Thursday: We were helping an older couple in our ward move some boxes out of their Barn. I had barely picked up a box, when the bottom fell out. Pots fell out, as well as a hornet's nest! Elder S_ and the Brother went running out of the barn as the hornets swarmed around me. I felt the spirit say, "be still," and that's when I closed my eyes, and stood still. I was not stung and when the hornets had calmed down, I slowly walked out of the barn. When I got out of the barn, I kinda flipped out. I had been so afraid, but I had listened to the spirit and I was unharmed!
Friday: It was 95 degrees and 90% humidity today. We helped an investigator build 3 shelves in his garage, and then we helped a family from Pocatello, Idaho move into our ward. I was sweating so much during the move, that my pants looked like I had waded through a river! I'm not sure I like the Summertime in Missouri very much. Elder Scott & I were the only ones there, but it only took us 2 hours to get them moved in. They took us to Applebee's for lunch, and I got a 9oz juicy steak with garlic shrimp. It was great!
Saturday: We went to the Temple for a Member's Endowment. They decided to do another session. So I went and did Baptisms for the Dead and Sealings. It was great, and I am so grateful for the Temple! We were at the Temple from 7am to 5pm. It was fantastic!
Sunday: We taught a Missionary Prep class, which went well. But, besides that, nothing interesting happened today.
I am so grateful for the temple and the rare opportunities I have to go and renew my covenants with our loving Heavenly Father. I love all of you and I love hearing what everyone is up to.
Love, Elder Hegsted
