Dear Family & Friends,
Last week we were hoping for some more service opportunities, and boy did we get some!
Monday: We were shopping at Walmart and I saw a little hummingbird lying on the floor. I picked it up and I realized that it was still alive! I ran to the front of the store and began dipping my finger in the drinking fountain and dabbing water on the little hummingbird's beak.
It was so cool to see the hummingbird's little tongue darting out and sucking up the water from it's beak and off of my hand. It started flopping around on my hand and I took it outside. It felt the cool breeze and like a flash it was gone.
Wednesday: One of the less active members in our ward was feeling sick so we went over and cleaned her house. It was funny to see her daughter's friend react to us cleaning. He kept saying, "It doesn't have to be that clean, just wipe it off."
My constant reply to his remarks, "But if it's not clean, we didn't clean it."
I am proud to say her floor was clean, and her kitchen looked magnificent! But we didn't finish, so we are going back again this Wednesday to finish what we started.
Thursday: We helped that member (who is building his house) again. We put up a lot of insulation, and we got a good rhythm going. Now we know what to do better next time.
I caught a bunch of frogs out of the pond next to the house and put them in a bucket. There were some really big ones, and I saw a toad about as big as my fist!
There were a couple copperheads out by the stream next to his house. But I will not divulge whether I was playing with them, or playing it safe. Now is a good time to guess how crazy you think I am...
Friday: We got a call from a member who needed some help at his farm. So, we spent the day baling hay. I got a bunch of hay stuck in my shirt, and let me tell you... Hay is very itchy! We baled a lot of hay today, and I had a ton of fun sweating out in the sun.
Saturday: We helped that member (who is building his house) again today. We finished most of the attic space and we only have a little bit left to do.
The pond and the stream has dried up a bit and I didn't see any frogs or copperheads. Maybe I'll see some more next time.
I am grateful for the many opportunities I had to serve my fellow man this week. The work is slow right now, but I know that I need to persevere and keeping working until the work speeds back up.
I love you all, and I pray that God will watch out for all of you.
